Bliss Gift and Home, located in Jackson, Mississippi, all started with a great idea and hard work. Today they are proud to provide quality products with their bridal registry and beautiful gifts from home accents, to distinctive jewelry and delicate baby gifts. Cathy Joyner, owner of Bliss Gift and Home, visited with us about her desire to help soon-to-be newlyweds make their house a home.
Cathy, how long have you been in business?
We’ve been in business since Black Friday 2015.
How did you get started?
I previously owned booth space in an antiques store, but found myself drawn to newer pieces and the items that make a house a home. That led to a love for seeking out accessories and gifts to accommodate a wide variety of budgets, tastes and goals.
What do you like most about what you do?
Working with engaged couples finding practice but lovely things to start their home is such an honor. Helping them find gifts for party hosts, attendant and bachelor/bachelorette parties is a special treat. Another plus is simply helping customers find gifts appropriate for so many different occasions within their budget. We particularly enjoy helping men with their gift choices….we love to make shopping easy for the gender that doesn’t particularly like to shop.
Tell us about you and your company: what you do, etc.
Bliss is a young company but our sales staff is a unique mixture of young and “seasoned.” Several of our staff have been married for decades and can offer up invaluable tips on what is practical and most useful in beginning life together in your new home. The younger staff members keep us all apprised of the latest trends. Bliss offers a bridal concierge service working with the couple and parents, if desired, in coordinating all of your gift and party needs during the engagement process. We offer discounts in three different packages with the ultimate goal of making it easier for the couple and parents to focus on the joy of the engagement rather than wasting valuable time price shopping.
Bliss even offers delivery within a ten mile radius, once again hoping to eliminate some of the stress and long checklist that is so often associated with planning a wedding. After the “I Do’s” are said and the gifts are all unpacked, we also offer design services incorporating all of your beautiful new treasures in to a home that reflects the couple’s taste and lifestyle. Our favorite project is to merge HIS and HERS with the OURS and mapping out a long-term plan that is financially tolerable and easily attainable for young couples just starting out.
If you could give a bride one tip/one bit of advice, what would that be?
Do not let what “everyone else” is doing influence your choices. There are many fabulous choices available in tableware and home décor. Work with a knowledgable sales associate to navigate you and your groom to choices that you will enjoy for years and years — ensuring a lifetime of wedded bliss, of course.
Do you have any funny stories:
We love to watch how excited our grooms are to get the zapper gun in hand. To ensure we aren’t the cause of the “first fight” we have two zapper guns for the both the bride and groom.
