  • Amber, what are the trends for bridal hairstyles for 2016?

Looks like some of the popular trends for 2015 are going to flow over into 2016 like the boho look, long loose curls and braids. Some newer trends will be chignons and hair with lots of volume. One of my favorite trends that will also flow over from 2015 will be hair accessories. Whether it is a small piece just to add a simple touch or a statement piece, I absolutely love hair accessories!

  • Can you tell our readers about your expertise and experience as a hairstylist?

I have been a hairstylist for about 10 years now. Beginning in beauty school, I found that I had a special passion for wedding updos and hairstyles. My years of practice have provided me with the ability to accomplish any wedding hair style. Whether it is simple loose curls, extravagant updos or something in between, I have you covered! I also specialize in coloring and cuts, so I can get your color just perfect for your big day as well!

  • What advice would you offer brides in selecting a hairstylist for their wedding?

My advice would be to do your research. Whether you have seen their work in a friend’s wedding or pictures of their work online, seeing their work is a perfect way to help choose a perfect stylist for you. Also, do not feel that you have to use your regular stylist, they may not enjoy doing updos or they may not be able to give you the style you are looking for.

  • What type of hairstyles work well for outdoor weddings? Traditional weddings in a church?

Being in the South, I typically recommend wearing your hair in an updo because there is a big chance your hair will not hold up if your wedding is outdoors due to the lovely southern humidity. If the weather is perfect and your hair tends to hold a curl, then you should be safe with it down. As for inside weddings, I don’t feel there are any limitations on what you can do because you do not have to fight the weather.

  • What hairstyles go well with hair accessories and with traditional veils?

I think that bigger accessories look best when the hair is in an updo, smaller accessories look best in half way hairstyles and headband pieces look great with any hairstyle. If your going to wear a traditional veil, then I suggest sticking with a more simple hair accessory in the back of the hair.

  • A lot of attention is centered on the bride’s hair, what advice do you have for the groom and groomsmen?

I would advise them not to try any new hair styles or hairstylist close to the wedding. They do need to have fresh clean haircuts by their regular stylist.

  • What tips would you offer to help prepare the bride-to-be for their wedding day?

If you are indecisive about what hairstyle to choose for your wedding day, then I highly recommend going to your stylist for a trial run and trying some different looks. If you are set on a look and are confident in your stylist, then I do not feel that a trial run is necessary.

Also, I ask each bride, ‘How do you wear your hair on a daily basis?’ I ask this because it is extremely important that you stick to a style that makes you comfortable. For example, if you tend to wear your hair up and out of your face every day, then I wouldn’t advise wearing your hair down. If you are like me and your hair is your security blanket, then do not wear it all the way up. You want to feel like yourself.

  • What do you recommend for styles for the mother-of-bride?

I would recommend sticking to something simple and elegant. You don’t want anything too busy for the bride’s mother.

  • Would you like to add any additional comments?

Remember that your wedding day is about YOU, the bride. If you have to cut cost somewhere, I do not recommend cutting the cost in regards to your hair and makeup. Think about your pictures…you will look at them forever, so leave it to the professionals to make you look flawless on your special day. I would highly recommend having the same hairstylist or makeup artist style all the bridesmaids also. Letting them do it themselves or by different artist can throw off the uniform look that a bridal party should have.
