Weekly Wedding Tip: Choosing Your Apartment

So, you’ve experienced the bliss of getting married, receiving all the gifts for which you’ve registered, having the most fun ever imagined on your honeymoon.  Now, where to live?   Well, if you’re like many newlyweds, the notion of buying a house immediately after marriage is not feasible.   Apartment living can be so much fun.  It’s your place, just the two of you.  Your first home together.  However, before you choose your new home sweet home, you need to do your homework.

Before you choose your apartment, there are several questions a potential renter should ask.

  • What is the safety/security policy? Is there an onsite security officer? Is he 24 hours or part time? Is there a security gate? How does it work? Is it closed after a certain time every day? Are there intrusion alarms? Do you need to activate it yourself, sign a contract with an alarm company, or is it included?
  • What is the price per size of an apartment?
  • What are the rules and regulations of the amenities provided? Such as: laundry facilities (if not in each apartment), the pool area (hours, policy on parties, cookouts, etc.).
  • What are the terms of the lease? READ THE LEASE!!!!!!!
  • Is the apartment managed by a local property or regional? If it’s local, how many properties are they managing in the area?
  • Ask about the on-site staff. Are they easily accessible if you have a need or concern?

Make a list of questions before you go apartment hunting.  Any apartment complex should be more than accommodating.  Take your time, research and enjoy your first home together!
