Your Furry Friends: Including Them in Your Wedding

Well, of course, you would think of nothing else!  They’re your children.  Other couples include their children.  Why can’t your include your four-legged children.  They’re an important part of your lives! Plus they make some fabulous photo ops.

The Pros:  Dressing up your pets and seeing them walk down the aisle is probably one of the cutest things in the world, not to mention how sweet they look!  Pets can provide a comic relief, especially if your pet has a funny personality.  A small, outdoor ceremony might be the best situation for pets, because they can roam about (with a designated handler) and can relieve themselves (hopefully before the wedding!).

The Cons:  Pets are unpredictable; you don’t know how they might react in a situation with two hundred people.  Keep in mind that if you are going to pick up the pet, or he jumps up on you, his paws could rip or stain your dress.  If you are the type of bride that is very traditional, having your friend at the ceremony may be too much of a distraction on your special day.

If you decide to have your pets present at your wedding, keep in mind that some guests may be allergic, or not even be animal lovers.  Have a designated handler to keep watch of the pets throughout the day and to take them home that evening.   You might want to have your pets present for the ceremony only, and then have the handler take them home directly after pictures.
