Ask The Bridal Guru: So Many Bridal Shows, how do I Choose?

Dear The Bridal Guru,

In the next few weeks, we will have three bridal shows in our area.  Two will be on the same day.  I can’t afford to attend all.  How do I choose which is best to attend?

Cindy

Dear Cindy,

Bridal shows are a great way to meet prospective wedding professionals that can help you with your wedding.  You can talk to them, sample their products, see their work and get ideas.  You may even win a door prize. You are right to be discerning.  No two shows are alike.  They have different exhibitors, they offer different experiences for you, the bride, and your entourage, and they are all priced differently.

First, shows that are members of BSPI, Bridal Show Producers International, are reputable shows.  These show producers must meet the highest standards to become and continue to be members of this association.  I would go with this show first.   To find a show in your area that is a member of BSPI, go to www.bspishows.com

Second, don’t let the price of the ticket dictate your choice of shows.  Some wedding show producers charge more to weed out those people coming and looking for something for free.  If you are a serious bride, you want a serious show.

Third, check out the show:  How long have they been producing shows in your area?  How many vendors do they have?  What else will be offered at the show?  Some shows give nice tote bags to the brides.  Some have galleries of ideas:  gowns, table scapes, cakes, etc.

Fourth, ask friends of yours that have been to shows their experience at these shows.  Most brides love spending an afternoon with their attendants, mother and future mother-in-law, and groom.

Fifth, be cautious about pre-registration with a new show producer in your area.  Newer shows don’t always happen because of a lack of exhibitors, funding, promotional dollars, etc.  Some are known to take your money with no intent of ever having a show.  Has this show every been scheduled before and changed the date?  Ask questions about the show producer, their past experiences, their involvement in the bridal industry and the exhibitors that will be there.  Do your due diligence.

Sixth, have fun at whichever show or shows you attend. This is a wonderful time in your life and most show producers want you to have a great experience as for many brides, this is the start of their wedding planning.
