Rainy Wedding in the California Redwoods

Shelly and Jonathan Higgins planned a romantic, intimate celebration in an outdoor setting, but Mother Nature had other plans. “The ceremony was in the rain—which actually made this wedding even more romantic,” recalled family friend and wedding photographer Angela Mannino of Angela Sue Photography. “It provided such a gorgeous backdrop for photos, too! With the fog rolling in over the hills above the vineyards, there was no way we were going to get any bad photos.”

Shelly chose navy and wine for her color scheme, which looked beautiful against all the greenery at The Redwood Retreat at Fernwood Cellars

Shelly and Jonathan’s “pre-game rituals” were slightly different.

Exchanging love letters and special gifts are meaningful traditions we hope never go out of style.

Coordinated couture: The bridesmaids’ dresses were similar in length and color but no two necklines are identical. Bridal attendants also choose their own shoes. The groom wore a navy suit with a gray tie. His groomsmen wore gray suits with navy ties.

When the heavens open up and the rain poured down, Shelly, Jonathan and their guests made the most out of their rainy wedding day.

The couple originally planned to have both the ceremony and reception at Fernwood, but the rain forced the reception indoors.

The three-tier tower decorated with fresh gardenias must have smelled as heavenly as it looked.

Congratulations, Shelly and Jonathan! May you have nothing but blue skies ahead.
