Weekly Wedding Tip: Bring on the Fun!

What makes a fun reception?  It is very rare that the wedding cake, the food or the flowers determine that.  Book the right band and be assured you’ll have a memorable and fun reception.

When choosing the right band, consider this:

  • What do you want to accomplish with your band?  Are you looking for a FUN dance band, background music or something more sophisticated or elegant?
  • What is the time of day for the reception?  For an afternoon reception think about a jazz trio or a piano player or maybe even a band that plays popular music but not necessarily dance music; people typically don’t want to dance in the middle of the day.
  • What is the size of room where the reception is taking place? How much room do you have for the band to set up in?  If it’s outdoors, do you have enough power/wattage? It is important that the size of the band works well with the size of the room or reception area.
  • What is your budget? Dance bands usually start around $2,000 with the average price ranging from $2,500-$3,000. Solo musicians are usually in the $300-$500 range, while Jazz trios are typically in the $750-$1,200 range.

Finally, when should you book your band?  The simplest answer is as soon as possible, especially if you know what you want; otherwise, you may not get band or the music you desire.

Book the band and/or the musicians early just like you do your venue, your photographer and your florist.  Then sit back, enjoy the day and have fun!
