A Chance of Calming Colors

Wedding planning can create a stressful environment that seems all encompassing for a bride-to-be. The peaceful selection for the Color of the Year by the Pantone Color Institute will add a touch of tranquility with refreshing colors to incorporate into 2016 weddings.

The experts at Pantone Color Institute, the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems, selected two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity as the Pantone Color of the Year. “Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director with Pantone Color Institute, said.

A Flurry of Flowing Flowers

Free-flowing wedding bouquets with stems of fanciful greenery and cascading flowers are the perfect choice for bridal bouquets for weddings. Whimsical bridal bouquets that incorporate seasonal foliage along with calla lilies and roses are a great choice for weddings in the New Year. Choosing between a traditional hand-tied bouquet or cascading bouquet is a personal choice that should be tailored towards the bride’s style and wedding theme.

A Circulation of Classic Wedding Gowns

The style of wedding dresses will be a nod to the classic, soft feminine style synonymous with Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. The selection to choose from to decide on that perfect gown will include some classic styles from 2015 and new designs for 2016. “I really think there will be a carry-over of the styles from 2015. Sheer backs, low backs and lace are popular. Lace is just the thing. For 2016, wedding dresses are trending towards having simple, beautiful fabrics,” Mimi Jefcoat, Owner of Mimi’s Bridal & Formalwear, said.

“For the bride, we will see more A-line dresses. Breathe! Brides want to be comfortable. We are also seeing old Hollywood glamour with jersey and satin fabric,” Lynda Jungkind, The Bridal Guru and owner/publisher of Premier Bride of Mississippi magazine and producer of The Premier Bridal Shows in Mississippi, said.

Another trend in wedding day attire is the revival of the going away dress/outfit. The going away dress was originally intended as an outfit that the bride could wear as a comfortable ensemble for travel as she and her new husband left to embark upon their honeymoon. “The going away dress for the bride is hot. The cute, short dress serves as her reception dress. This is a throwback to the ‘60’s, when brides changed from their wedding gown to a going away suit or dress,” Jungkind said.

A Downpour of Debonair & Dapper Dudes

In recent years, there has been a shift from a one-day rental of a tuxedo to purchasing a custom made suit for weddings. By purchasing a suit as opposed to renting a tuxedo, the wedding party is able to have a nice suit to add to their wardrobe for future occasions.

Keith Kinkade, Owner of Kinkade’s Fine Clothing, stated, “Most of what we are seeing are people moving away from wearing tuxedos and people wearing suits. The wool suit has been the most popular suit that we sell for weddings.

“People are having weddings that are not in a church and rather in an open air setting like at a barn or antebellum home, or at the beach. The new settings for weddings are causing the shift away from the super traditional and dressy tuxedo look. More grooms are moving away from tuxedos,” Kinkade said.

Pocket squares, fun socks, and suits worn with a vest can incorporate festive wedding themes and colors into wedding day attire for the groom and groomsmen. “The pocket square needs to complement the tie being worn. Also, all of the wedding parties’ pocket squares need to be the same. It has been popular for the groom and groomsmen to have fun with the socks with all the same pattern, but all different colors. Sometimes a groom will wear a vest and the groomsmen will not, which makes the groom’s suit a little more special. The vest could be a solid cream colored vest, or it could be a vest that adds to the suit, like a three-piece suit,” Kinkade stated.

A Surge of Sensational Snapshots

Selfies and cell phone snapshots have taken supremacy as an avenue for wedding guests to capture the memories of the day’s festivities. A creative twist on the traditional wedding album is to have wedding guests email their fun cell phone snapshots to a designated email that the bride and groom can access to be able to create an informal photobook through a website like www.shutterfly.com. A casual wedding day photobook would capture memories and images as seen by the guests on the special wedding day.
