I am in a pickle. My best friend, who is a fabulous cook, wants to cater my wedding. She really wants to get into the catering business and she would like to use my reception as a springboard or launching pad for her new business venture. I am not comfortable with this and I have always wanted to have my wedding at a particular venue that already has a caterer. What is a bride to do? Help!

This is my mantra: Brides don’t let friends do their wedding! This means cater, do flowers, their cake(s), direct/coordinate, photograph, videotape, design, nothing!!
Lucky for you, the venue you where you want to have your wedding already has a caterer. The caterer is probably exclusive to the venue. And the venue probably does not allow unlicensed caterers.
First, I would reserve the venue and confirm their policy. Then, I would thank your friend and tell her you have your heart set on this particular venue that has an exclusive caterer and does not allow outside caterers. This keeps peace between you and your friendship intact.
