Northeast Mississippi: From Faulkner to Elvis

Northeast Mississippi is bustling. Whether Oxford, Tupelo, the Golden Triangle, or everything in between and all around, each area offers uniqueness. All offer brides big city amenities with some of the state’s top wedding specialists, who make a wedding day complete. And all offer that Mississippi hospitality and charm that says, “y’all come back now, you here”.

Where else can you find William Faulkner, then 60 miles away, the birthplace of Elvis? Where else can you find old oak trees and blooming magnolias at stately mansions? Where else can you find community re-vitalization with trendy shops and restaurants? And where else can you find top medical facilities and a PGA golf course?  It’s all in the Northeast corridor of Mississippi!

Northeast Mississippi is home to industry, commerce, recreation, and higher education…University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Mississippi University for Women (the “W”), Mississippi State (State), plus numerous community colleges.  Many couples are choosing to get married in the infamous Grove of Ole Miss or have Mississippi State cowbells at their wedding and/or reception.  As unique as each school is, so are the weddings throughout Northeast Mississippi.

Two AFID floral and event designers are located in this area.  One of these is Kevin Hinton of Bankhead Flowers and Gifts in New Albany, MS.  Many of the rental companies offer unique and one-of-a-kind items.  Check out:  Busylad Rentals in Tupelo, Event Rentals in Pontotoc, and Magnolia Rental and Sales in Oxford and Batesville.  Great food is huge in this area like the unique items offered by Butch Scott at Taylor Grocery Special Events Catering.(Note:  You can find these wedding professionals by visiting www.premierbridems.com and picking up a copy of the latest edition of Premier Bride of Mississippi.)
Unique and memorable weddings are made in this part of the state. From a rehearsal dinner cruise on an excursion yacht along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to the “I Do’s” in an antebellum home, a bed and breakfast, or an old restored chapel, weddings in Northeast Mississippi are a bride’s dream. Of course, there’s a buffalo park, fish hatchery, and car museum, if you want something really unique. Add some of the best restaurants and chefs in this part of Mississippi and you and your guests won’t leave hungry.

Regardless of where a couple decides to host their wedding, Northeast Mississippi boasts delightful towns steeped in history and built on tradition – two qualities that are essential for a Southern wedding.
