Dear The Bridal Guru,
I am going to a wedding in about six weeks. It’s going to be outdoor on a beach. I have a great dress that will be perfect and will keep me cool, too. The problem is, it’s white. Growing up, I was told never to wear white or black to a wedding. However, at all the weddings I attend, I see lots of women that are guests wearing white and black. Can I wear white to this wedding?
Wedding Guest
Dear Wedding Guest,
Today, just like you see the bride, the groom, and the attendants in anything, the same holds true of the guests. Yes, like you, I was always told the proper protocol in dress for a wedding was any color but white or black. Today, you see lots of women wearing white or black or black and white at today’s weddings. I, myself, have a go to black cocktail dress that I wear to most weddings. It’s fun to wear and to twirl around the dance floor. The most important thing in what you wear is that you feel good in what you wear. When you feel good about yourself, you stand taller and others see that fashionable woman, too.
So, yes, you can wear white to the wedding. You can wear any color you want. Just don’t upstage the bride.
