My girlfriend is really wanting to get married. And I want to marry her. But I don’t want to do it the traditional way. I want to propose to her and say we are getting married right now. I want to have everything arranged and ready to go…the ceremony site, the reception, the food, the cake, even her gown.
What is your opinion on Surprise Weddings?

Dear Impetuous Groom,
I’m now sure what my opinion is. Part of the excitement for the bride is the planning of her wedding. Most women dream about their weddings all their lives. She dreams about picking out her gown with her mother and sister. She may have a certain place she has always wanted to get married. She may want a particular piece of music for walking down the aisle on her father’s arm. She may have always wanted a certain type of wedding. But, not all women are the same, just like not all weddings are the same.
If your intended is as impulsive and impetuous as you, she may think this is wonderful! This is the ultimate surprise and you have relieved her of a lot of stress by doing everything and making all the decisions. To me, this sounds wonderful. I would love to be a guest. Everyone is different. Every couple is different. And every wedding is different.
If you feel your bride will like this, go for it! Everyone loves surprises!
