I DO Y'ALL

9/11: Let US Never Forget!

It was a Tuesday morning.  I was getting dressed for work.  I had just returned from my annual girls’ trip to Destin, FL.  My husband was on a business trip in Las Vegas.  I had the Today show on when I heard that a plane had flown into one of the towers.  I thought it was a small Cessna.  And I thought to myself, “they shouldn’t allow small planes to fly among the skyscrapers in New York City”.  Then to my horror, I saw a huge commercial airliner plow into the other tower.  I couldn’t believe it.  Who would do such a thing?  Why was this happening?

It wasn’t long before we found out that we had been attacked.  This was an act of terrorism on our own soil.  This was an act of pure evilness.  This was an act of the hatred of America and its capitalist ways even though the terrorists that perpetrated this enjoy so much due to our spirit of ingenuity and innovation.  9/11 would forever change our lives.

Now 12 years later, we see more acts of violence throughout the world all in the name of “I’m right/you’re wrong!”  Why can’t people embrace the differences that God gave us?  It shouldn’t matter what religion you practice, what country you hail from, the color of your skin, your sex, your sexual orientation, your political party affiliation, whether you are right or left handed.  Look into the soul, the heart of the other.

We are all pretty much the same with the same wants, desires and needs:  security, a roof over our heads, food in our tummies, clean water to drink, a good job, our family’s safety, love and companionship.  Is that so difficult?  Are we really so different?  I think not.  Let’s use the lessons of 9/11 to get to know and appreciate our fellow men and women.  Let’s honor the memories of those lost in 9/11 by treating others with love, kindness and respect.  Let US never forget!
